Girls' weekend getaway Cedar Grove Lodge

A Girls’ Weekend Getaway is the Perfect Way to Stay Connected

Connection is something we all strive for, but sometimes forget to maintain. A girls’ weekend getaway is the perfect way to stay connected to the ones that keep you sane.
A good friend is a connection to life – a tie to the past, a road to the future, the key to sanity in a totally insane world.” (Lois Wyse).
But planning the perfect girls’ weekend getaway can feel like you’re trying to herd cats, so here are a few key points to keep in mind when looking for the ideal place to book your getaway:

  • delicious food
  • comfortable accommodations
  • activities onsite or close by
  • waterfront
  • beautiful scenery
  • private ( laugh till 3 am without bothering anyone)

We checked all these boxes and more when we were invited for a girls’ weekend getaway to Cedar Grove Lodge on Peninsula Lake in beautiful Muskoka, Ontario. This resort is a home away from home, but so much better. Included in our stay were three home-cooked meals a day and a comfortable cottage with log fireplace and gorgeous views of the lake and grounds. The Flemming family have been the owners of this little piece of heaven since 1927, so they know a thing or two about how to make guests feel welcomed and cared for during their stay. They take  pride in offering their guests a unique and relaxing experience – which is why so many of their guests return year after year.

Cozy living room in our cabin

There are 19 cottages to choose from and all are super cozy and have that traditional Muskoka feel: relaxed and woodsy. For our particular girls’ weekend getaway, we found the layout was perfect – from your private covered porch you walk into an open plan cabin. The living room with fireplace is so inviting and it was here that we spent late nights sitting up playing cards, laughing, and enjoying a few glasses of wine. It’s during times like these that you discover which of your friends is the card shark, the joker, or the one who can’t hold a poker face to save her life. Secrets are shared, connections are solidified, and memories are made. Then you drag yourself to bed longing for sleep, but excited for the day ahead.

Breakfast hot and fresh

After a night of wine and laughter, a big breakfast is just what we needed to get fueled up for a full day of adventure. I’m  serious when I say the food here is excellent – large portions, fresh ingredients from local suppliers, and creative flavour combinations are served at every meal. You and your group will be assigned a particular table for the length of your stay and you will be waited on by friendly and attentive serving staff who will help you choose your meal from the daily menu (check out the pictures below to see some of the fabulous food I enjoyed). Shout out to Bonnie – she is the bee’s knees and has been on staff at the lodge since she was 15-years-old and it’s evident that she still enjoys her job as much today as the day she started! Hey, Bonnie!

Girls’ Weekend Getaway Adventures Await in Muskoka

The Muskoka area is loaded with every kind of experience you could want to try: museums, spas, restaurants, foodie tours, winery and brewery tours, not to mention all the outdoorsy sports and adventures. You can also access many of the provincial parks in the area like Arrowhead, where we did some skating on the trail through the woods. Algonquin Park is also close by and is a must-see any season, but especially if you enjoy wildlife and hope to catch a glimpse of a moose.

If you are looking for a more relaxed getaway, Cedar Grove Lodge offers many onsite activities for all seasons. While we were there, we took advantage of the complimentary cross-country skis and beautiful trails all through the property. I learned to cross-country ski when I was in grade school so it didn’t take long for it to come back to me and I was gliding along the trails in no time. I even earned the nickname “Sochi” after a past winter Olympics. The lodge is fully stocked with all the equipment you might need to enjoy the property during any season: canoes and kayaks, fishing gear, hiking, bird watching … they really have you covered so that you can make the most of your stay.

We enjoyed our time at Cedar Grove Lodge so much, leaving us well rested, well fed and re-connected. You can count on the magic of this place and the Muskoka area to be the ideal location for your next getaway with family or friends.

A special thank you goes out to Jeremy Flemming for inviting us to experience what makes Cedar Grove Lodge so special and allowing me to share that with all of you.
