Bistro ’67 Field to Fork

Explore Local Flavours

A favorite find in my quest for culinary adventure- Bistro ’67  in Whitby offers guests the opportunity  to explore the local flavours of Durham Region and the bounty of Ontario. The tagline for this establishment is from “field to fork”, inspired dishes that layer locally grown produce, meat and wines  with in house expertise to create a true culinary experience. The icing on the cake is that it comes neatly wrapped with modern decor  in a gorgeous location inside the Center for Food of Durham College. You would never guess this was a teaching facility unless you stop to watch the large flat screen monitors,  you will see student and chef collaborating to bring you ever changing seasonal offerings. This is so up my alley, it is mind boggling that I didn’t know about it sooner. I think they can expect me to be a regular patron anytime I have the opportunity to dine out.

An impromptu lunch date with a friend  led to my first experience at Bistro 67. We ordered the pickle plate, which in my opinion is an under appreciated appetizer, it was fabulous!

There was a selection of traditional cucumber pickles, curried carrots, beets and pickled eggplant. We also sampled a cheese board of Niagara Gold, Pecorino and Smoked Gouda accompanied by freshly baked bread and an onion compote. For my main I decided to give the highly recommended Meatloaf Meatball a try since it was the feature of the day and I was not disappointed! As you can see in the picture there was a surprise inside, a cooked egg………AH Mazing!

My second visit was for a girls night out,  six friends who all appreciate good food and boy did we ever appreciate it! So much so that I only got pictures of the first two appetizers and my salad.  Dinner was just too darn good to stop eating long enough to photograph it. That means I have to go back for another visit soon, actually I have it on good authority that a special burger topped with a fried egg is going to make an appearance as the weekly feature. You know where you’ll find me!

I think its high time that Durham Region celebrates what grows here, and what is prepared here. We have the food, and we have the talent.

I can’t wait to experience this place!

  2. Me and my husband drove by here on the weekend and it caught our attention. I will definitely have to try it now.

  3. Thanks for writing this post Selena. I’ve been wanting to go there but just haven’t got around to it. I will definitely make sure I do now! Quick question, because they are a teaching facility do they have special hours, or is it just like a regular restaurant?
